The third segment of diagnostic tests includes tissue compatibility tests prior to organ, tissue or cell transplantation and autoimmune disease diagnostics.
Tissue Typing activities at the Blood Transfusion Centre of Slovenia focuse mainly on:
- testing for tissue compatibility prior to kidney transplants,
- testing for tissue compatibility in haematopoietic stem cell transplantation,
- identifying tissue antigens for the voluntary donors of haematopoietic stem cells (members of the SloveniaDonor Registry, and for donors for the Umbilical Cord Blood Bank),
- identifying HLA in support of autoimmune disease diagnostics.
In order to extend a possible selection of donors, we cooperate with highly controlled non-profit international organisations that were established to coordinate the selection of recipients and donors at international level.. Hence, the Centre for Tissue Typing has been accredited by the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI).
