COMPATIBILITY TESTING BETWEEN THE PATIENT AND A BLOOD UNIT
Prior to transfusion, the identity information provided by the patient is to be compared to the information indicated in their documents and the lab cross-match test results.
The patient's blood group indicated in the original blood group test results is to be cross-referenced with the blood group indicated on the label of the relevant blood component unit.
Furthermore, the numbers on the cross-match test results and blood units are to be verified.
Prior to transfusion, it is mandatory to identify the AB0 blood group, i.e. to perform the so-called bedside test, which must be identical to the AB0 blood group indicated on test results and the AB0 blood group indicated on the blood component.
