IMMUNOHEMATOLOGICAL TESTS PRIOR TO THE ISSUE OF BLOOD

Prior to the issue of blood, tests to identify compatibility between donors and patients in various blood cell antigen systems are performed.

Before the transfusion of blood, the patient's AB0, Rh D and Kell blood group systems must be identified and the so-called cross-match performed. This way, it is ensured that there will be no adverse reactions after transfusion due to erythrocyte antibodies.

Patients always receive the blood of their own AB0 and Rh blood group; only exceptionally, it is allowed to transfuse the blood of other blood groups. Within the scope of cross-matching, a certain percentage of patients are found to have erythrocyte antibodies, which dictates further tests, i.e. the so-called specifications of erythrocyte antibodies.
